SKI SLOPE NEWS The Directors of
NSASC are delighted with the news that our application to the Big Lottery
(building community assets fund) has been approved with an award of £150,000.
NSASC had applied for “Technical Assistance” funding to take the project to
the Planning and Building Warrant stage and cover associated costs. Further
feasibility work and consultation with the Newmilns Community is also a
condition of the grant. The award marks
significant progress in providing a major national centre in Newmilns for
Snowsports and other activities as well as providing a 21st Century
venue for other local groups and organisations to meet. The project will also
provide local jobs many of which will be attractive to young people. In the
Summer of 2008 NSASC will make a further Big Lottery application and seek to
assemble a £3.5m funding package to make the project a reality. The ongoing
support of the East Ayrshire and in particular Newmilns is essential for the
success of the scheme. NSASC is a
Community Company or Social Enterprise and not for profit. NSASC will
become a Registered Charity in the near future. Charitable status will open up
access to a greater number of potential funders. The Freeride
Park for Mountain Bikes is progressing well and some photos can be viewed on www.skinewmilns.co.uk
. It is hoped to open the park soon - wet conditions are impeding progress at
the moment. The “Extreme Valley Riders” Mountain Bike Club has formed and
further information can be had from Carol Cooper CAZZBA@aol.com
. The Ayrshire
Junior Snowsports Club got off to a flying start this Winter with membership
close to capacity. Over 40 young people many of whom are local are regularly
turning up for the Friday Club nights. For further information email ayrshirejuniorsnowsportsclub@hotmail.co.uk
. 41 junior members recently had their first "real snow" experience at
Xscape. The After School
Club offers access to the slope between 4pm and 6pm at a special price of £2
– open to all school children. NSASC
instructors have an "adaptive" qualification which enables them to
teach children with a range of disabilities – please enquire. Private lessons
are available for skiing, snowboarding and mountain boarding as well as block
group lessons. The Xmas and New Year ski and board schools are filling up
already - £45 for 2 full and I half day instruction (equipment provided). For
further information contact skinewmilns@btconnect.com
or telephone 01560 322320. NSASC Dec 1st
